Teaching Portfolio

My goal when assigning course work is to give students a working knowledge of industry-standard design techniques and best-practices for working in a professional environment. No matter the project, media, or subject matter, students are held to a high standard of professionalism and are expected to make informed design choices based on research and creative exploration.

I believe it is important as a designer to not only create great work, but also be capable of explaining and selling your creative ideas. Throughout my teaching experience, I have emphasized that students present their design concepts to the class with supporting write-ups, mood boards, storyboards, and process sketches. This ensures that student work is intentionally crafted to align with a project brief.

As students move into the creative exploration phase of a design project, I provide feedback and creative resources based on current design trends and the role of a designer in a professional agency setting. Details such as file organization, cross-platform workflow, deliverable specs, and hitting the requirements of a project brief are all emphasized throughout my lesson plans in addition to design theory and technology. The result of establishing this professional framework is student work that demonstrates a high level of design thinking and technical expertise.
